I spent five years in the Bay Area as a Cal student and never really explored Oakland beyond Elmwood and Rockridge. I just visited recently and hung out in Piedmont, which is very, very nice.

That pizza looks amazing! I will definitely check it out the next time I'm up there. It's funny how many "Chez Panisse" grads move on to start up their own quirky and wildly successful enterprises--Ici is a wonderful ice cream shop on College that was started up by a former pastry or dessert chef from Chez Panisse.

I'll be frequenting your site regularly! Way to rep the Bay Area!

Love Pizzaiolo...haven't had it much since we moved north. Next time you head toward Santa Rosa or Sebastopol check out Mambo's. Not as fancy - more a college styled joint - but killer pies.

And here I always thought that Pizzaiolo was Argentina's greatest composer (not to mention being an amazing Bandoneón player)

This place sounds a lot like Pizzeria Mozza in Hollywood, but I get the sense that the wait for table would be a little shorter in Oakland.

Now you have me salivating for some of Charlie Hallowell's fabulous Italian cooking. I love Pizzaiolo, although I get fed up negotiating the inevitable queue that greets you at whatever time you turn up. Thanks for the pingback. Tracey
